However, I will definitely use this in the future for the next time I have a problem file. XLSM workbook and was working on restoring the formulas which were missing. After several hours, I simply closed the laptop without saving the spreadsheet to continue working on it a little later. When I reopened the laptop, I was greeted with a message saying Microsoft was installing updates.

I was fearful that I had lost the hours of work I had been doing, and when I looked at the folder where the files were located, it should that the most recent version was from about 6 hours before when I had last worked on it. Luckily, when I opened the file, XL said that the document hadn’t been properly saved and gave me the option to recover the last autosaved files from when I had last worked on it. I was relieved I hadn’t lost all that work. Lastly, whenever I open the “defective” file and close it, even though I click “Don’t save” it saves it anyway and changes the modification date.

Anyone else ever have this issue? So, since I slowly seem to be salvaging my work, a few questions remain. Does anyone know why this happened when choosing “Track changes”? Is there a way to unlock the original unlockable VBA project I know the password or add Excel Objects back to it to restore it’s functionality? Finally, having last used “Track Changes” in the older pre-ribbon versions of Excel where the macros didn’t pose any problems, should I avoid it now seeing the problems it caused?

Is it really true that you can’t “Track Change” on a macro-enabled workbook? Unsolicited bulk mail or bulk advertising. Any link to or advocacy of virus, spyware, malware, or phishing sites.
